Our quest for the perfect bee stock for use in the pacific northwest has led us  to several dedicated and sincere breeders.  We found this one Apiary to be breeding stock of exceptionable qualities and with a diversity of genetics. Our foremost breeder imports his breeders directly from Europe. (Old World Carniolans) This stock is of the same genetic pool that Susan Cobey used in her work. We should be thankful as this breeder is definitely increasing the genetic pool in this country. These are very close to being second daughter queens. They are not as swarm happy as the New World Carniolans and the breeder claims they are calmer and better producers. His apiary is also breeding a Minnesota, Italian Hybrid strain with a large Texas strain of Italians . He discovered these while Moving his own bees from South Dakota. A fellow beekeeper had some and had good things to say about them. He said what attracted him to this bee at first was the size. These Italian queens are larger than the average Italian, He has bred these Queens for several years now and by his experience they are extremely productive and are easier to work with than the regular Italian Hybrids Both breeds show excellent mite resistant and hygienic qualities.

 Both Species overwinter well and build brood fast in the spring.  These Carniolans are excellent comb builders. Ideally suited for our area. This apiary is in the  Tule fog area, so I can attest to the damp winters there.

Our other breeder is further North and the Apiary is up near the foothills of the Sierra's There expertise is in the New World Carniolans and a different Italian Hybrid. They have the nicest black queens that you have ever seen. These are the Susan Colby New World Carniolans not to be confused with the Old World Carniolans. The ones we had last year were the fastest brood builders I have ever seen. I had customers pulling honey off first year colonies. Myself included. For the first time we have a Buckfast Queen breeder. So we will have Buckfast packages and queens. Russian Packages and queens Old World Carniolans and New World Carniolans queens and packages. Minnesota Italian hybrid and The Minnesota hybrid Texas Italian strain. And as always we will carry the tradition Italian packages and queens. See our queens page for more specific details.
